Five Human Wonders…truly amazing…worth seeing

THE MILLAU VIADUCT is part of the new E11 expressway connecting Paris and Barcelona and
features the highest bridge piers ever constructed. The tallest is 240 meters high and the overall height will be an impressive 336 meters, making this the highest bridge in the world.

First Air-conditioned bus station in Dubai, UAE

Toshiba Elevator and Building Systems Corp announced the installation of the world’s fastest passenger elevator just exactly where it is needed – in Taipei 101, the world’s tallest building. The elevator runs at a top speed of 1,010 meters per minute when ascending (600 meters per minute on the way down), which works out to 60.6 kilometers per hour. The Elevator can go from the 5th floor to the 89th floor in 39 seconds.

World’s fastest elevator offers the following new technologies:
* The world’s first pressure control system, which adjusts the atmospheric pressure inside a car by using suction and discharge blowers, preventing those riding inside the car experiencing ‘ear popping’.

World’s First All-glass Undersea Restaurant Opens

The World’s First All-glass Undersea Restaurant Opens

15 th April marks the day that the first ever all-glass undersea restaurant in the world opens its doors for business at the Hilton Maldives Resort & Spa. It will sit five meters below the waves of the Indian Ocean, surrounded by a vibrant coral reef and encased in clear acrylic offering diners 270-degrees of panoramic underwater views.

“We have used aquarium technology to put diners face-to-face with the stunning underwater environment of the Maldives”, says Carsten Schieck, General Manager of Hilton Maldives Resort & Spa. “Our guests always comment on being blown away by the colour, clarity, and beauty of the underwater world in the Maldives, so it seemed the perfect idea to build a restaurant where diners can experience fine cuisine and take time to enjoy the views – without ever getting their feet wet.”

Created by MJ Murphy Ltd, a design consultancy based in  New Zealand, Ithaa’s distinctive feature is the use of curved transparent acrylic walls and roof, similar to those used in aquarium attractions. “The fact that the entire restaurant except for the floor is made of clear acrylic makes this unique in the world,” continues Schieck, “We are currently planting a coral garden on the reef to add to the spectacular views of the rays, sharks and many colorful fish that live around the area.

If an air conditioned bus station makes the list of Five Human Wonders, it’s not saying a whole lot about our species.

  • Steve said:

The air conditioner does not fit with the rest. The others are epic though!

  • Ty said:

    The underwater restaurant: Bioshock anyone?

  • adam said:

Not impressed with the First Air-conditioned bus stop in Dubai, UAE, It’s not exactly a wonder of the modern world is it ?

  • Claire-France Perez said:

What it says about the Human Species? It would be a wonder that anyone can cool off while waiting in the heat. For most of us, that is a luxury. What does it have to say about the Human Species?

  • newyorkdude said:

If you point to a particular fish that’s floating past you does the waiter go out and catch it for your meal?

  • Warped said:

    That’s 180 degrees not 270. 270 would mean half a floor.

  • Chaz said:

I don’t know why you guys are so upset about the air conditioned bus station…If I saw an air conditioned bus station in New York, I’d take more pictures of that then the empire state building…Like, that’s awesome.

  • Bas said:

lol @ ty. BioShock is cool though, but this is our first step towards rapture.

On the busstation: not that special is it?

  • Diane said:

Air conditioned bus shelter? That’s an interesting idea! It’d be nice here in Oldham to have heated ones in winter!
If they could run on renewable energy I’d feel a lot better about it!

  • Fritz said:

Perhaps solar panels combined with a small geo-thermal unit could run one of those in some areas. Depending upon where you are the ground so far down will be 50 to 60 degrees F. With that combination it could then maybe be enough to make you more comfortable.

It could be a 270 degree view. Although the dome is 180 degrees in a vertical plain, you can look down beyond that on both sides. Your point of reference is the floor, their point of reference is probably up at the level of somebody standing in the dome and looking down both ways.

  • Joey said:

The 270 degrees is probably on the same horizontal plane as you. So there is one quarter of the restaurant you can’t see the ocean, where the kitchen is. The vertical plane, yes, would be 180 degrees.

  • Kevin said:

The air conditioned bus stop is by far the best and MOST useful of all the wonders on that list. I would be way happier sitting in that bus stop when its 115 degrees outside, than in any of those other places. KUDOS FOR THE BUS STOP!!!!

  • Heather said:

Tim EXACTLY what i was thinking!!!

  • Phil E. Drifter said:

That air conditioned bus stop is totally fake, look at the shadows, they’re all wrong. Totally photoshopped.

  • AZ said:

The underwater dining place would be so cool. I would love to go their one day.

  • JOD said:

Hah, I love how everyone nowadays on the net goes “ITS SHOPPED ITS SHOPPED.”

I imagine in Dubai its pretty darn hot, so an air conditioned bus station would be a godsend. It doesn’t say “5 human wonders – of all time” It just picked out 5 that are pretty neat. However I think in Dubai you would have added their man made island resorts. Let literally made more land for a huge resort town. Kinda interesting.

  • Alice said:

I thought the bus stop was cool :P

    This is neat ^^ Thanks

This underwater restaurant is really awesome…great wonder you have collected here.

    Thanks

  • scott said:

the airconditioned bus shelter is a wonder.

it’s a wonder it made it onto this list.

the viaduct is probably the only real ‘wonder’ on this list. other human wonders include the pyramids, the robot on mars, the way they get the caramel into the caramilk bar, and the fact that bush actually got elected as president (once, let alone twice).

  • Martha Lipson said:

I love the under the sea restaurant,it’s just beautiful.

  • themotioninvisiblesmusic said:

That Air Conditioned bus stop is wack. Everything else is great, like the aquarium restaurant. I might nervous eating in there.

    What about sliced bread?

  • Griff said:

Who in Dubai has small change in their pockets for a bus?

  • Nicholi said:

Those are really awesome! And the underwater restaurant looks really cool.

  • EpicFail said:

I cant wait for “first underwater restaurant closed 80 people killed, four eaten by shark”

Lesson: never throw your fork at your husband not matter how angry your are.

  • seraphrevan said:

    @Chaz:
It is 270, because standing next to the sides, you can look downwards. If anything, it’s more than 270.

  • Mad Jayhawk said:

Just think 75 years ago (more or less) those dudes’, who are comfortably awaiting for a air conditioned bus in an air conditioned bus stop, parents or grandparents were sitting at this very spot in a raggedy old tent, surrounded by camel dung in 115 degree temperatures eating grasshoppers. Thanks America for inventing the SUV.

  • kellyg said:

Do you people even realize how hot it gets in Dubai?

  • Feedback Secrets said:

It would be awesome if you could just point to one of the fish swimming by and tell your waiter “I want that one”. Now that would be a dinning experience to remember.

  • jack said:

I like the bus stop the best.

  • danc4498 said:

“First Air-conditioned bus station in Dubai” Uh… Is this one a joke?

  • tommy said:

Maybe they can have a heated bus station in Alaska as well.

  • RessurecT said:

The underwater restuarant… uhh its not ALL GLASS because the floor is hard wood, clearly. lol

  • Angelica79 said:

Does the underwater restaurant make anyone nervous? What if something bad happens????

  • jason b said:

If they can make an underwater cafe why the hell can’t they make round plates?

  • Simay Yeral said:

  • Impala said:

I wonder if my Impala would fit in the garage? Great pics.

  • nick said:

I think the car storage is the most impressive, but they are all amazing. Dining at the underwater restaurant must be great too!

  • I Khan said:

Bridge and Restaurant have lovely impressions for viewers. Really impressive and remarkable

  • cam said:

I’m surprized that no one is gasping about the aquaduct.
If you ever rode a bus instead of a gas hog some of you would really appreciate a little cool air in Phoenix.

  • thewickedone said:

I would settle for a heated bus stop. Way easier to make. And for as hot as it gets in Dubai, its just wasteful to have AC in a bus stop. But I guess their trend isn’t exactly energy efficeint, with what they’ve been building.

Fast elevators, while cool, I would not mark as one of the greater human achievements. There are a lot cooler things going on in Dubai and southern Asia. The other three are pretty wicked though.

Dubai is a pretty wealthy country, for the gentleman that made the remark about not having change for the bus. Look it up.

  • chocchipkookie93 said:

I wonder how they stock the kitchens in the underwater restaurant. It’s not like you can just pull a truck up to the back door…

  • mominmubin said:

    this images are cool

  • vishal said:

it is just like a magic done by the engineers.
after seeing that we can say that now we can
create a world under water ot human.
